As CTO and tech lead within the integration team at Enfo, a lot of Andreas Stenlund’s time is spent looking ahead, developing client offerings and creating effective coordination to make sure the organization leverages synergies for both deliverables and Enfo’s customers. Understanding and anticipating needs is key, closely following industry discussions and current trends, as well as staying up to date with customer demands. Ultimately, it is important to apply technologies in practice as well as explore new opportunities for their use.
Finding new perspectives
For Andreas, finding new perspectives is about understanding. He is driven by a motivation to understand how other people work, what systems and solutions they employ and to dissect the inner workings of different processes. By gaining other perspectives, he gets a lot of inspiration on how to work in simpler and smarter ways. This is something that Andreas thinks is important – what works in one's own everyday life does not necessarily work everywhere. Understanding often comes from interacting with people – thinking differently and learning from others is key to being able to gain different perspectives.
The human factor critical for implementation
Containers, serverless and 5G are rapidly expanding areas affecting large parts of the industry. It is obvious to Andreas that many underestimate the impact of this ongoing shift. He believes that these are given technologies today, but also sees that many approach them with a dated mindset. There are several companies that have successfully built their application infrastructure with this new mindset, but also many follow the same traditional application models they’ve always used. New technologies create new types of challenges, and in order to take them on in the best way possible we need to understand their potential. Successful implementation and change are about understanding these potentials and, in the end, this is about us as human beings.
Edge computing grows
According to Andreas, the next major step after cloud migration of applications is the move to edge environments. He believes the companies that have fallen a bit behind in development are usually those that haven’t been in a situation with an urgent need to take the leap. With containers, serverless and 5G evolution, organizations have great opportunities to run applications at any location, without limitations like connectivity and connections speeds. Andreas explains that this development creates new demands for those of us who work with integration. He feels we need to understand how we can create the greatest possible customer values with this technology evolution – but we also need to comprehend how to most efficiently manage and maintain solutions that are already in place, since the old will not disappear overnight.
Improvements when needed
Andreas describes participation as an important factor. He always strives to take an advisory and, if necessary, a questioning role in the projects he is involved in. To keep a holistic view and being able to come up with improvement proposals are things that motivate him.
