Being inspired by cloud led to exciting career opportunities

Text

The opportunities in cloud technology have inspired Enfo's Cloud Tech Lead Jonas Elfström, 47, for the past seven years.

"In my previous job at e-man, we predicted that the cloud is going to be something huge, the next big thing. We were a bit early then, but the cloud is now bigger than ever," says Jonas.

Jonas' experiences have brought him far; from a consultant to Lead-role guiding others. And recently he has taken on opportunities to share his knowledge even beyond Enfo. But how did Jonas' journey with cloud consulting begin?

From developing logistic systems to cloud consulting

In the late 90's Jonas, alongside with numerous other tech-savvy colleagues, worked for Ericsson and ended up developing their logistics systems for a few years. Evenings and nights, Jonas spent working for the ISP (Internet Service Provider), a small company he founded with his colleagues. At ISP, Jonas worked first as a Systems' Manager, eventually moving into the role of CEO.

"Those experiences made me realize I wanted to work as a consultant in software development. That way, I would have the benefit of being able to learn about different technologies and businesses through different customer cases. It all came into place when I got a call from my former classmate at the beginning of the year 2000," Jonas recalls.

Jonas soon joined a small company called e-man and started working with web applications. Later on, he adopted a more security-focused role at e-man's sister company, e-man Connect. He was the company's Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and moved from web applications to systems' integration. As the cloud was back then yet an innovation, selling the benefits of cloud was tough.

"With no prior experience of cloud, people didn't first trust the idea of the cloud. Luckily our persistency and all notable results of cloud integrations helped us getting forward"

Several years went by with cloud-based development and systems' integrations. The group kept on learning and growing their expertise. After years of hard work, the success and high competence of e-man became noticed by Enfo. In the autumn of 2016, Enfo acquired e-man.

The essential experience led to significant responsibilities

Today Jonas works as a Cloud Tech Lead at Enfo's Cloud & Application department. He combines the consultant and developer roles in his day-to-day work and has taken great responsibility for tech-related changes and competence development in Cloud & Application teams. This responsibility has added to his days, for example, sparring meetings with colleagues, giving guidance for team members when needed, and also meeting Enfo's customers.

"In addition to the consultant & developer responsibilities in my current role, I enjoy contacting and meeting our customers. For me, the aspect of problem-solving and translating tech-language to others has always been fun," says Jonas.

Moreover, when vital decisions need taking in any team, they are always run by Jonas first.

"If we need to change a solution, need new requirements or have to make some investigation to get forward, that's when my expertise comes to the picture."

The developing cloud domain inspires Jonas to learn and share knowledge beyond Enfo

According to Jonas, there's always something new to learn in cloud tech. As a consultant and a leader, it's super important to stay up to date with the latest stuff.

"At Enfo, we have to be current and learn continuously. From time to time we attend different conferences and remember to make time to earn tech certificates"

Recently, Jonas's knowledge and expertise in the cloud have offered him some new exciting opportunities too. Jonas has taken a part of teaching and guiding cloud experts outside Enfo. He has been spreading his wings as a public speaker, sharing information about different cloud solutions made at Enfo and demonstrating them to other cloud enthusiasts.

"I will continue exploring public speaking. I think it's a great way to give ideas to other professionals and share information about the cloud. Teaching and guiding others is a great way for me to learn too."
